3M Novec 7100 engineered fluid is a low-boiling hydrofluoroether (HFE) engineered fluid, chemically known as 1-methoxynonafluorobutane (C₄F₉OCH₃), CAS 163702-07-6. It is widely used in precision cleaning, anti-fingerprint (AF) coating dilution and heat transfer.
3M Novec 7100 engineered fluid has a boiling point of 61 °C, a density of 1.51 g/cm³ and a surface tension of only 13.6 mN/m at 25 °C — among the lowest in the HFE family — giving it outstanding penetration into narrow gaps and complex structures for thorough cleaning and fast drying.
3M Novec 7100 engineered fluid offers excellent solvency and dilution for perfluoropolyether (PFPE) oils and greases, and is a classic diluent for anti-fingerprint coatings, producing uniform, pinhole-free films.
On safety and the environment, 3M Novec 7100 engineered fluid has zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) and a global warming potential of about 297. It is non-flammable (no flash point) and chemically inert, with good material compatibility with copper, aluminum, stainless steel, and a wide range of engineering plastics and elastomers.
3M Novec 7100 engineered fluid is suitable for precision cleaning of electronic, optical and semiconductor components, anti-fingerprint coating dilution, fluorinated oil and grease dilution, heat transfer and refrigerants, and electronic component testing.
