Povidone iodine (PVP-I) is an amorphous powder ranging from yellowish-brown to reddish-brown
at room temperature. It has a slight odor, is easily soluble in water or ethanol, and its aqueous
solution is acidic. It is insoluble in ether, chloroform, acetone, ethane and carbon tetrachloride.
The aqueous solution of povidone iodine does not have the drawbacks of iodine tincture: it has a
light color, is easy to wash off, causes little irritation to mucous membranes, does not require
ethanol for deiodination, has no corrosive effect, and has low toxicity.

Povidone iodine is a broad-spectrum, powerful bactericidal disinfectant with strong killing
effects on viruses, bacteria, fungi and mold spores. This product has little irritation to the skin,
low toxicity, long-lasting effect, and is safe and easy to use. It is basically non-irritating to
tissues and is used for disinfection of skin and mucous membranes, such as cleaning before
surgery, disinfection of surgical sites and wounds. Povidone iodine is generally made into a
10% solution and used as a disinfectant. It can effectively kill: Newcastle disease, infectious
bursal disease, avian influenza, mycoplasma, Escherichia coli, Salmonella, influenza, blue ear
disease, etc. It can also kill the eggs of livestock and poultry parasites and inhibit the breeding
of insects such as mosquitoes and flies. At the same time, povidone iodine can also be used in
